A day does not pass by without a news story in the media
involving the negative consequences of stress. But stress
is not necessarily a bad thing; we need good stress (eustress)
to survive, without it we would not move out of the path
of a speeding car. Good stress can make life more exciting,
creative and successful, it can motivate us to work or study
hard to get better grades or promotion to secure a better
future.
Stress begins to have a negative consequence, when we perceive
that the source of stress is relentless and we feel that
we do not have the resources to cope with it. The negative
consequences are numerous and can include:
- Anger
- Depression
- Inability to concentrate
- High blood pressure
- Stomach problems
- Skin rashes
- Loss of libido
- Cessation of menstruation
- Suppression of the immune system
- Worsening of existing medical conditions
What we need to do is to find the optimal level of stress,
that will motivate, but not overwhelm us. Welcome to Holistic

What is holistic stress management?
HSM is about giving the individual the ‘tools’ to
manage and prevent the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual
consequence of negative stress.

- Nutritional advice
- Time management
- Complementary therapies
- Assertiveness training
- Imagery
- Cognitive behavioural techniques
- Journaling
These are just a few of the techniques available to a HSM
therapist.
What happens in HSM session?
The first session is used as a getting ‘to know you
session’, where we will share information, you can
ask me any further questions you may have about HSM and I
will try to gain an understanding of your lifestyle, and
of any physical and emotional problems you may have, this
will enable me to produce a personalised HSM plan for you.
I adhere to a strict confidentiality code whereby all of
your information remains confidential.
Thereafter each session will last for approximately 1 hour
and will be client led, we may discuss how to use some of
the ‘tools’ already mentioned which should be
practised in between each session in order for you to gain
maximum benefit, or we may spend time discussing problems
that you may have encountered in between our meetings.
The course of sessions is purely dependent upon your individual
needs, 5 to 6 session is recommended.
